SC seeks govt response on petitions challenging extension to ED director

The petitions also challenged two ordinances brought in last November by the Modi government extending the tenure of directors of CBI and ED from a fixed tenure of two years to a maximum of five years. Bills to replace the ordinances were passed by Parliament in December.
