HDFC Bank vs Axis Bank: Same 1.9x book value, very different profit growth

Axis Bank grew its loan and deposit book faster than larger rival, HDFC Bank in the September 2026 quarter. A sharp decline in its provisions helped Axis Bank to grow its standalone net profit by 37.6% y-o-y in the quarter, well ahead of HDFC Bank.
