Rare Case of Polio Prompts Alarm, Urgent Investigation in New York

​​On Friday, health officials were investigating the case, interviewing immediate family members of the patient and urging immunizations for anyone among the general public who had not received one. The patient reportedly contracted a form of polio that can be traced back to the live, but weakened, poliovirus used in the oral polio vaccine.
